internship anybody?

In case anyone's still checking this even though it's vacation, Prof. DeCastro told me she has an internship available in a design place in Brooklyn. It's from one of the girls from last year, so you can probably check it out with them. If anyone's interested, get in touch with DeCastro.

Photography Final

1) diff b/w advertising photography and editorial & documentary – advertising is selling something, not looking to show the truth, and make more $ as an advertising photographer.

2) Advertising photography categories:
- Still life – either product OR food
- Fashion – either fashion (about clothes) OR beauty (about makeup)

3) Rule of thirds – Section scene into thirds and subject should be in criss-crosses of middle (where black circles are, NOT smack in middle)

4) to keep ppl interested in photo – keep viewers eye moving in a circle by composition – don’t give viewer way to escape photo ex: one object in photo going out of photo / one side bright etc…
-Ansel Adams darkened outside of photos to keep eye inside of photo.

5) “Alternative” Processes – Non silver processes (made photo without other elements rather than silver)
One Process – Gum Bichromate, making exposure with sunlight. Process it in water.
-Edward Steichen made a shot of a pond at moonlight, and it was the most expensive photo sold at an auction, sold for $2.929 Million.

6) Food Stylist stuff that you remember

7) Archival - term used to describe matting and framing photograph to make it last forever.
-all materials must be acid free
- matt must be cut and put over photo so it doesn’t touch the glass.

Contracts
8) All photographers have a contract that must be signed b4 shooting.
- for copyright protection and so you get paid.
- It specifies who owns the photo (usually the photographer does)
- agencies wont pay without contracts, and they take 90 days to pay you.
- Photographer has a rep who takes 15-25% and they handle this stuff.
- client pays for your meals, an assistant, studio, equipment, and your fee.

- contract specifies:
Usage – how they’ll use the photo. Ex: billboard, subway ad, bus stop ads, magazine spread… each pay different amounts.
How long – specifies how long they can use photo. Client can decide to do a buyout – they can use it forever, for whatever they want (starts at about $30,000)

-model has to sign a model release – you own that image.

http://www.photoshopcafe.com/tutorials/super%20tutorial%202/website.htm
This is a really good tutorial for creating a website by importing it from imageready to dreamweaver. btw, it shows a much easier way for creating rollovers than the one we learned...go figure!

Photography Class

Last class we learnt A LOT. We had a food stylist speak to us.

How a food stylist would make something like :
1. ice cream –
1 lb of confectionary sugar 1 stick of margarine
Some karo syrup
Can put chocolate syrup for chocolate, strawberries and food coloring or chocolate chips

2. cereal – use only whole pieces
Spoon Crisco into bowl for milk on bottom, make it as flat as possible
then stick whole cornflakes into it the Crisco
then put drops of Elmer’s glue on top to make splashy milk

3. frozen box take a box
Use Desenex (foot powder) and spray the box
Then spray dry ice on it
Then put fake snow on it (can make it wet so it’s slushy)
Also can useWater with some dried ice , wait a few minutes and it makes crushed ice

4. cold bottle 1/3 glycerin and 1/3 water to make a spray and spray with some type of sprayer the glass with it
Or can use light corn syrup on glass
Put fake ice cubes and fill with soda

For homework make a fake food and take a picture of it

Then our professor said sometihng very disturbing (to me at least) - that like 90% of the pictures that were in the gallery photoshopped!!! im like ok so whats the big deal then?? anyone can do that! he's like some ppl think like u , but other ppl like me are totally cool with that. ( the type for him to say no)

so then we went ot bryant park after and attempted to take pictures of the ice skaters, but basically i got blurs. then me and sara b. went shopppppping . We were walking down the street taking pictures liek tourists! heres some of our pics :

Internship

Ok, so here is the situation; we're all supposed to be registering for this internship next semester, but NO ONE IS EXPLAINING TO US WHAT IT IS! Hello??? So Professor Fink said that you have to be working with a professional graphic designer...does that mean I have to quit my job? HELP! Is anyone else feeling a little overwhelmed?

Spring 2007 classes

Does anyone know what's happening with Intro to Modern Art (or whatever its called) next semester? Does it even seem likely that there will be a class?
Please post before tuesday! Thanx

Photography Class – 12/7/06

Archival Framing– use materials that are all acid free and 100& rag (paper made from cotton rather than a tree)
-Put a mat around the frame to keep glass from touching photo.
-don’t place it where the sun will hit it.

- nice to use cream / white mat around photo, and create a hinge mat: tape photograph (around edges of pic, good to rather put photo corners) with acid free tape to mat, then fold over the front onto the pic.

- sign your photograph, used to only be able to use India Ink now can use pencil too (but not worth as much in an auction).

HW:
Create a series of photographs.
Should be amazing pics
Min: 6 pics
Due next class – typed form of what will do and how will develop it.
