Photography Class

Last class we learnt A LOT. We had a food stylist speak to us.

How a food stylist would make something like :
1. ice cream –
1 lb of confectionary sugar 1 stick of margarine
Some karo syrup
Can put chocolate syrup for chocolate, strawberries and food coloring or chocolate chips

2. cereal – use only whole pieces
Spoon Crisco into bowl for milk on bottom, make it as flat as possible
then stick whole cornflakes into it the Crisco
then put drops of Elmer’s glue on top to make splashy milk

3. frozen box take a box
Use Desenex (foot powder) and spray the box
Then spray dry ice on it
Then put fake snow on it (can make it wet so it’s slushy)
Also can useWater with some dried ice , wait a few minutes and it makes crushed ice

4. cold bottle 1/3 glycerin and 1/3 water to make a spray and spray with some type of sprayer the glass with it
Or can use light corn syrup on glass
Put fake ice cubes and fill with soda

For homework make a fake food and take a picture of it

( the type for him to say no)

so then we went ot bryant park after and attempted to take pictures of the ice skaters, but basically i got blurs. then me and sara b. went shopppppping . We were walking down the street taking pictures liek tourists! heres some of our pics :

So Professor Fink said that you have to be working with a professional graphic designer...does that mean I have to quit my job? HELP! Is anyone else feeling a little overwhelmed?

Does anyone know what's happening with Intro to Modern Art (or whatever its called) next semester? Does it even seem likely that there will be a class?
Please post before tuesday! Thanx

Photography Class – 12/7/06

Archival Framing– use materials that are all acid free and 100& rag (paper made from cotton rather than a tree)
-Put a mat around the frame to keep glass from touching photo.
-don’t place it where the sun will hit it.

- nice to use cream / white mat around photo, and create a hinge mat: tape photograph (around edges of pic, good to rather put photo corners) with acid free tape to mat, then fold over the front onto the pic.

- sign your photograph, used to only be able to use India Ink now can use pencil too (but not worth as much in an auction).

HW:
Create a series of photographs.
Should be amazing pics
Min: 6 pics
Due next class – typed form of what will do and how will develop it.

Alternative Photography – “Non-Silver” Photography

1) Gum Bichromate Printing – Potassium Dichromate (orange powder) mixed with water, this becomes light sensitive so it has to be kept in a dark bottle in a dark closet. Add this mixture to gum arabic, plus some watercolor (blue, red, green and black) paint paper with this substance in dark room.

-Making a digital negative: in photoshop turn the image into grayscale and then choose image, adjustments, invert WALA! you have a negative. Then print this on wet media acetate.

-put the digital negative with the watercolor paper in a contact printer. Then put it outside for 3-6 min, then put it in water and you do this 4 times, each with a different color watercolor and at the end you’ll have a print!

- Edward Steichen – 1900’s created gum prints. Made a platinum print (most permanent print possible) on watercolor, and then gum print on top. He made photograph of flatiron building. His print of a pond auctioned off for the most in photography history – 3million!!

HW: shoot something very colorful

Photography class Nov 2 #6

Commercial Art- selling s/t
Diff b/w commercial and fine arts is. Fine arts can take whatever interests you. Commercial, you have to do what they want you to do.

Commercial, you hired by:

1- editorial - magazines -make $ - day rate 500-1000
2- advertising – ads -make $$$ - 2500-5000

Magazines pay by the page. Less all photographers have reps. The rep keeps your portfolio and gets you jobs, but you have to pay them 25%.

(But could get 1 job a week) camera calls 30,000 to lease. Camera is big and bigger chip than reg camera.

2 categories of photographs:

1-still life – an object
a. food
2-fashion – take of pple
a. Beauty- about the makeup

Person does either type. Photographers don’t do both types.
Commercial photo. a lot of pressure.
Art director decides what you take pics of
Photographer has to hire a stylist- stylist has to go buy the props. Brings choices and then the art director picks and approves everything.
Photographer asks retoucher if they do certain things, if they can be fixed.
Make sure that you leave room for the text when shooting pic for an ad.

Sometimes, art director doesn’t come if they know that the photographer will do what they want. Just leave directions.

Rep takes care of all money issues. They just send you a check
Art directors don’t know how to take pics so they just assume you can do anything for them.

4- who invented another process the same time as Dagerrer?
A: Henry Fox Talbot – he made a negative that could be reproduced

5- who revolutionized photography?
A: Goerge Eastman – Kodak company. He mass produced cheap box cameras, and made roll films for amateurs

Photography Notes #5

Contemporary Photography

Ansel Adams was a modern photographer that took gorgeous pictures. He made edges of pictures darker so your eye is pulled to the middle. He shot in black and white with a big camera.
Developed the Zone System - he got 10 zones out of a negative so all the detail was there.

Irving Penn shot for vogue in 1943 and became famous (mainly for his lighting) Shot in sepia, black and white, Is still living in Manhattan and is in his 80s

Lee Friedlander – shot in nyc in 50s Was a street photographer
He Took some interesting pictures and Broke rules that we shouldn’t do.

Joel Meyerowitz – 1980s Has a good eye for pictures, took color Very clean, good time of day, perfect saturation, huge prints – some of things made him famous
Richard Selesnick and Nicholas Kahn – 2004 Took pictures of scenes and made it into a world By photoshoping it

For homework take 6 photos that look like art – preferably outside, not family

Photography Class #4 - 10/5/06

Photography Class #4
10/5/06

Fine Arts Photography – Art made purely for the reason of expression, not for any purpose such as commercial, decorative, or illustrative
-Art for art’s sake

Late 1800’s-1930’s: photography wasn’t accepted as an art – so the photographers tried to make their pics look like paintings, they started a movement dubbed: Pictorialism. They would put things in front of the lens to soften the photograph, or paint the pic all red/blue.

Famous Pictorialism Photographers:
1-Julia Margaret Cameron – became one of the best portrait photographers and did a lot of famous ppl. She was the first to do close cropped portraits (she began at age 48).
2-Rev. Charles Litwidge Dodgson – (pen name: Lewis Carroll, he wrote Alice in Wonderland) also a good portrait photographer
3-Alfred Stieglitz – (he studied photography in Germany) he convinced the population that photography was an art. He worked at a magazine: ‘American Amateur Photography’ but they fired him, so he went to a camera club – ‘The Camera Club of NY’ where he started a newsletter – ‘camera work’ which he took with him when he left the club, to start an invitation only group for serious photographers, called the ‘Photo Sessesion Group’ – they wanted to break away from conventional pictorialism. They continued ‘camera work’ which became famous. He started the 291 Gallery (291 5th Ave)He shoots realistic photography

HW-shoot a portrait photograph, thinking about the bakround and outfir of person OR do like Sielistz (a reality photograph)
MIN 3 photographs

Dr Suess

The Laws of the Sukkah according to Dr. Suess Rules of the Sukkah (with numbered footnotes)

You can build it very small (1)

You can build it very tall (2)
You can build it very large (3)
You can build it on a barge

You can build it on a ship (4)
Or on a roof but please don't slip (5)
You can build it in an alley (6)
You shouldn't build it in a valley (7)

You can build it on a wagon (8)
You can build it on a dragon (9)
You can make the skakh of wood (10)
Woud you, could you, yes you should

Make the skakh from leaves of tree
You shouldn't bend it at the knee
(11) Build your Sukkah tall or short
No Sukkah is built in the Temple Court

You can build it somewhat soon
You cannot build it in the month of June (12)
If your Sukkah is well made
You'll have the right amount of shade (13)

You can build it very wide
You can not build it on its side
Build if your name is Jim
Or Bob or Sam or even Tim

Build it if your name is Sue (14)
Do you build it?Yes you do!
From the Sukkah you can roam
But you should treat it as your home (15)

You can invite some special guests
Don't stay in it if there are pests
You can sleep upon some rugs
Don't you build it where there's bugs

In the Sukkah you should sit
And eat and drink but never spit
If in the Sukkah it should rain
To stay there would be such a pain (16)

And if it should be very cold
Stay there only if you're bold
So build a Sukkah one and all
Make it large or make it small
Sukkah rules are short and snappy
Enjoy Sukkot, rejoice be happy.

Footnotes:
1. Maimonides (RMBM) Mishne Torah, Hilchot Sukkah, Chapter 4, Section 1. The minimum height of a Sukkah is 10 tefachim. A tefach is a measure of the width of the four fingers of one's hand. My hand is 3 1/4 inches wide for a minimum Sukkah height of 32 1/2 inches. The minimum allowable width is 7 tefachim by 7 tefachim. This would result in a Sukkah of 22 3/4 inches by 22 3/4 inches. 2. The maximum height is 20 Amot. An Amah is the length from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger. My Amah is 15 1/2 inches for a maximum height of 25 feet. Others say that 30 feet is the maximum. 3. According to RMBM the Sukkah can be built to a width of several miles. Shulchan Aruch also says there is no limit on the size of the width. 4. RMBM Hilchot Sukkah Chapter 4, Section 6.5. RMBM Hilchot Sukkah Chapter 4, Section 11. RMBM states that one may construct a Sukkah by wedging poles in the four corners of the roof and suspending scakh from the poles. The walls of the building underneath are considered to reach upward to the edge of the scakh. 6. RMBM Hilchot Sukkah Chapter 4, Section 8-10 discusses the ins and outs of building your Sukkah in an alley or passageway. 7. There is a location referred to in the Talmud called Ashtarot Karnayim. According to the discussion there are two hills, with a valley in between where the Sun does not reach. Therefore it is impossible to sit in the shade of the roof of the Sukkah. I can't find the reference...hopefully next year. 8. RMBM Hilchot Sukkah Chapter 4, Section 6. You can go into a Sukkah built on a wagon or a ship even on Yom Tov. 9. RMBM Hilchot Sukkah Chapter 4, Section 6. OK, RMBM says a camel but dragon rhymes with wagon a lot better, don't you agree. Anyway, RMBM says you can build your Sukkah on a wagon or in the crown of a tree, but you can't go into it on Yom Tov. There is a general rule against riding a beast or ascending into the crown of a tree on Yom Tov. 10. Chapter 5 deals with the rules for the scakh. Basically, you can use that which has grown from the ground, and is completely detached from the ground. So, for example, you cannot bend the branches of a tree over the Sukkah to form the scakh. But you can cut the branches from a tree and use them as scakh. 11. This would be a violation of the rule cited in the prior footnote.12. Shulchan Aruch, Hilchot Sukkah, Perek 636, Section 1. The Sukkah should not be built sooner than 30 days before the Hag. However, if the structure is built prior to 30 days, as long as something new is added within the 30 days, the Sukkah is kosher. 13. Of course it's a well known rule that you must sit in the shade from the roof of the Sukkah and not in the shade that may be cast by the walls. It seems that this might affect the height of the walls, depending on the longitude of the location where you are building your Sukkah. 14. Technically, women, servants and minors are exempt from the Mitzvah of Sukkah. In our day we hope we know better than to read out half the Jewish people from the observance of Mitzvot. Of course, that's just a personal opinion of the author. 15. RMBM ibid Chapter 6, Section 6 explains that you should eat, drink and live in the Sukkah for the 7 days as you live in your own home. One should not even take a nap outside of the Sukkah.
16. RMBM ibid, Section 10. If it rains one should go into the house. How does one know if it is raining hard enough? If sufficient raindrops fall through the scakh (roof covering) and into the food so that the food is spoiled - go inside!

Photography Class #3

Photography Class
9/28/06

Photoshop Stuff:
Interpolation – This occurs when resample image is checked off in the ‘Image Size’ menu
photoshop takes the photograph and interprets the pixel and adds more pixels, guessing the color of the pixels – NOT GOOD! Pic becomes pixilated
-the best interpolation is bicubic – looks in 4 directions for pixels
-bilinear option is ok, it looks at 2 pixels
-nearest neighbor option -bad! Just looks at the neighboring pixel

-To avoid this, UNCHECK resample image, which makes the image smaller while upping the pixel amount.

-to make a 5x7 print: click the crop tool and enter 5 in the width and 7 in hight and adjust the crop box as you see fit. Press enter if you like it, escape if you don’t.

-Removing red eye – under the crop tool, just click the tool, go on the eye and poof! red eye gone!

Printing Photos:
-Prints should be 300dpi
-Epson is the best photo printer, and most use ink-jet printers, rather than laser.
-Archival Inks & Paper: papers and inks with acidic levels (PH levels) that let the photo last and not fade. Epson gaurentees their prints (with their inks) last 72–100 yrs
-Iris Printer – best archival prints

Documentary photographs:
Mathew Brady – one of the first to shoot documentary photography, he shot images of the Civil War
-During the Depression the USA hired a group of photographers from a faction of the govt called the FSA (Farm Security Administration) to document the depression.
2 of those photographers: Dorothea Lange & Walker Evans
They were required to turn in their negative to the govt. who stores them in the Library of Congress (164,000 negative in total!!)

Kesiva Vachasima Tova!

Just wanted to wish everyone a kesivah vachasima tova and a happy and healthy year!
May this year be a year of weddings ! Say Amen!!

Photography class - 9/21/06

Photography – 9/21/06

Aperture – determines how much light comes through
It decides how small to make the hole. Shuts down to a certain size hole. Aperture goes from smaller, if bright, to big, if it’s light out.
Depth of field- how much is in focus when take pic. The smaller the hole, the more is in focus. If want a lot in focus- (things close and far) choose to make aperture smaller. (in front of lens)

Shutter - controls motion. Shutter is behind lense. Moves across in amount of time exposure calls for. In dark room takes more shutter time. Bright day shutter speed 1/60 of a second. In darker place shutter could be open for one second until enough light comes in.

ISO = “SPEED” OF FILM
- higher the number-less exposure time – better for Dark (adds noise, looks grainy)
- lower, the longer the exposure – better for Bright
- good to stay around 50 (can go to 100)

-good to go click halfway down on button first – and camera takes all measurements and then when click all the way down, it instantly takes pic.

Resolution = Pixels = dots per inch
-screen only reads max 72dpi (good to keep camera at the highest setting-find where this is in camera manual)
Resolutions - 1)256x256 (cell phone cameras)
2)640x480 – Low
3)1216x912 - 1 megapixel camera (cant even get good 4x6 print from this)
4)1600x1200 - 2 megapixel camera (good 4x6 print)
5)2240x1680 - 4 megapixel camera (good 8x10 print)

Jpg- file format using compression, used by cameras

LIGHTING TECHNIQUES: diff b/w good & bad pics
2 types of light – Natural (sunlight) and Artificial (man-made)
-ppl think best time to take pics is 12noon - Wrong!
-Best to shoot in morn (sunrise) until 10:30am
-For night shots – 2hrs b4 sunset
-these times give golden light and good shadows

Natural Light – 1) Backlighting – sun shining behind subject of photo, this highlights subject’s figure and using flash fills in the details of the person –called “Fill” Flash.
2) Side Lighting – sun shining on side of the photo – giving a dramatic shadow to side of subject. If it’s too much of a shadow, hold a white posterboard on the other side of subject –opp. of sun (called a “Fill” Card) which reflects light back on the person.
3) Diffused Lighting – if shooting at noon, photographer & subject stand in the shade, diffusing the light. OR can use big white umbrella / white screens.

Artificial Light – 1) On Camera Flash – (flash inside camera) causes shadow behind subject, so move subject away from wall (so shadow falls on floor)
2) Off Camera Flash – additional flash (can buy one that screws onto side of camera), tilt the flash up, so its not straight on the subject but rather bounces off the ceiling.
3) Ambient Light – taking pic with existing light in room (no flash used)

photography class notes

PHOTOGRAPHY CLASS – 9/14/06

TIMELINE:
350BC – Aristotle
1600’s - Camera Obscura
1802 – Thomas Wedgewood
1826 – Niepce
1829 & 1839– Daugere
1833 – Niepce dies
1850 – Archer
1870 – dry plate
1888 – celluloid
1889 – Kodak

350BC – Aristotle looked at an eclipse through a strainer and the image of the sun was projected on the ground
-got ppl curious, and interested in capturing an image the way it ‘was’ rather than just painting

1600’s - Camera Obscura – developed Aristotle’s strainer into a box with glass (called a camera obscura), that would project the scene outside onto the glass, so you could trace it exactly. The painter stood behind the box with cloth over his head (so no light came in).
-they discovered that if you adjusted the glass it would make the scene in focus
-the next thing they came up with was to put mirrors in the box to see the image in different places (guy doesn’t have to stand behind box anymore)
-next they put a lens on the front instead of the mere hole, then they added an adjuster knob for the lens

1700’s – the term photography is used with this camera contraption.
The term comes from 2 Greek words: Photo – light & Graphois - drawing
- Scientists saw that silver nitrate got dark from the sun (they thought it was heat rather then the truth – light)

1802 – Thomas Wedgewood – wanted to capture an image without tracing
-he soaked leather into silver nitrate and put leaves on it and let it sit in the sun and used oils, and tada – an image (of the leaves) appeared on the leather!
-his prob: wasn’t able to ‘fix’ the image, it wasn’t permanent, so he had to show e/t in candlelight b/c the sun would turn his images black

1826 – Niepce – he left metal in sun and treated it with aromatic oils and his image stays! His image was the first photograph ever (of some building in france)

1829 – Daugere and Niepce get together to standardize the process of photography for the general public, but in 1833 Niepce dies.

1839 – Daguarre invents the Daugarreotype - which takes 1 hr to make an exposure. Cons – its one time use and can’t make prints from it or mass produce it.
(ppl. were held in chairs so they wouldn’t move for that hr)

-At the same time – Fox Talbot comes up with a process called Calotype (or Talbotype) which gives a negative to make positives from. He puts paper wet with silver nitrate into the camera obscura which accelerates the time to a 10 min exposure. He uses chemicals to fix the image and can take this image into a darkroom and shine a light through it to create a duplicate.

- Daguarre gets credit for photography; even though Talbot was a little b4 him; some say Talbot’s mom talked him out of going public with his idea and to get a real job instead!!

1850 – Archer – a sculptor who takes Talbot’s process of negatives on paper, and instead puts negative on wet glass.

1870 – Dry plate was invented – dry glass was put into the camera, now they can just take the plates with them instead of the whole lab with all the processing equipment – begg. of true modern photography.

1888 – Celluloid (plastic) – plastic plates are invented (basically what we use today)
-Thomas Edison invents the movie camera at this time (strip of plastic run through a projector) con- always caught on fire…

1889/90 – Kodak – George Eastman modernized the film process, he stopped making plates and just put film on plastic – he made up the name Kodak for his company (no meaning!)
-he came up with the first box cameras for home use and the first film in rolls
-he made a red circle on the camera box (film doesn’t pick up red) and as the film rolled past the red circle a pre-written number popped up so he knew when to stop rolling.
-Kodak corners the market!
-Eastman and Edison worked together on the first motion pictures & cameras.
-Edison was working on a big 70mm film, and asked Eastman to cut it in half for him, creating the 35mm film and camera which became the standard.
-Kodak focuses on the public rather than the professionals.

Mac Joke

Hey guys I saw this joke in time magazine. It was so cute i had to post it:

"Apple has issued a recall onseveral models of Mac laptops because the battery can overheat and catch fire. Experts say a Mac fire is just like a PC fire, except it's more hip and condescending" by Conan O'Brien

INDEPENDENCE DAY!!

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY EVERYONE!!
hope you had a happy one and enjoyed your day off from work :)

Hi

Hi everybody! I'm hope everyone's enjoying being free (ok, for some of us freedom is relative). I don't know how many of you are taking care of your portfolios or otherwise messing around on your computers over the summer, but anyway here's THE most useful Photoshop tip I've learned (some of you have probably known this for ages, but it was news to me-at least I learn something at this job). It is possible to go back more than one step in Photoshop without the history palette, by using CTRL-ALT-Z. It works just like CTRL-Z does in the other apps. Hope it saves people as much time as it does me!

Enjoy your summer!
Shevy

HELP - revised

hello everyone (is there anyone else who checks this thing over the weekend besides me??)

anyways as usual i did not start finnels thing. but last night at like 2 am i got a brainstorm and came up with this- now when i woke up this morning im like huh that makes no sense. so i am asking for your help. my idea (which sounded better in my head) was to do hbo on demand with pbs kids - like that you can choose to watch whatever show you want at any time. so i was thinking to do like pictures of kids with things that they hate - like vegetables, brushing their teeth , etc. , and i need a cute line to go with it something having to do with - let them choose what they want, let your kids demand this , etc...
am i making any sense?
any help would be greatly appreciated thanks so much! :-)

helpppppppppppp

ok a bunch of questions-

1. what did we do in finnels class last week ? and when is all his stuff due for? how many ads do we have to make exactly?

2. how is everyone doing their calendars? i know she doesnt like grid type but i think im donig that anywys - im dong like one page pic, one page calendar- anyone else doing this?

3. are all of o haras stuff due this week ? or next?

thaaaaaaaaaaanks
im in for some MAJOR cramming here!!!!

Notes for Finnels midterm

Ok i decided i'll be nice and put my notes on here. :) I hope they're clear... these notes were taken in class in between IM'ing and checking my e-mail and onlysimchas so they might not always make sense...
If you have any questions just ask!

  • In the word Typeh the height from the top of the T to the bottom is called the cap height. The part of the "y" that comes down from the line is called the descender and the part of the "h" that extends up is called the ascender.
  • The height of a letter with no ascender or descender is called x-height/ Examples: e, o , n, etc.
  • Cap height usually varies in comparison with the point size of the font. Usually it is 66-72% of the pt. size.
  • Leading is measured baseline to baseline.
  • Don't use auto-leding! - It's 120% of the type face
  • DO use curly quotes. Not ". (those are inch marks) You can change to curly quotes in Quark-->preferences-->interactive-->turn on smart quotes.
  • Hard Return= pressing enter
  • Soft Return= pressing Shift+Enter- this does not apply any paragraph settings such as indents etc. that you set.
  • Kerning- Quark: Ctrl+Alt+Shift (to make more or less)
  • Kerning: Illustrator: (can control amount of increase at a time in preferences) Alt + right/left arrows
  • Dont condense type manually. Only condense if the typeface itself is condensed. You can use it sometimes for effect, but not too often.
  • When have reverse type, = dark box with a light color type, use a bold weight type and add some tracking to make it easier to read.
  • Legiblity: how easy it is for readers eye to follow the page as a whole.
  • If you have longer lines, should use more leading.
  • If Quark is set to curly quotes, and you want to switch back to " for something, press CTRL+ALT+ "
  • M-Dash: a long dash-- (pretend that was one long dash!) M space dash is the size of the type point size. It will vary in different fonts so using the standard M space (You can check off "standard M space" in prefrences by Quark) will make that space the same size no matter what the font. **I'm not sure if he said we should or should not use the standard M space so if anyone knows please post!**
  • There are 6 picas per inch, 12 points per pica, 72 points per inch.
  • For a page not to be too crowded, the page should be half dark, half light. Multiply the the height of the page by .7, then the width by .7.- that is the size of the part which should be dark/light. Ex: page is 5 x 7. Multiply 5 by .7= 3.5. Multiply 7 by .7=4.9 Size= 3.5 x 4.9. (huh?? i dont really get that lol )
  • To know abot how wide your columns should be, type the lwer case aplhabet and measure in picas. Then multiply that by 1.5 . and that should be the width.
  • **The EYE is always the best tool instead of mathematical formulas. (so why bother telling us them in the first place?!)
  • In InDesign can do alot of type features. Type-->make optically nice. or something like that.
  • Quark: Edit-->new H & J - can change word spacing , etc
  • Quark: easy way to get type going around a shape- Ex: to get type around a circle, make a circle text box, type something, then click shape-->change to line, and the type wll automatically go around the shape.
  • Spread: 2 facingpages in a book. 2 types:
  • Advertising Spread = ad
  • Editorail Spread = has type, it's an article, etc
  • Trim: actual size of the paper / ad
  • Safety/Live: the area that the important elements of the page should be in. Ex: type, logos
  • Bleed: if you want the image to go till the end of the page you have to extend the picture beyond the trim size in the program you are working in.
  • Hierarchy: page should have a structure- path for the eye to follow. Most importnat things should b big, etc
  • Proximity: how close different elements are to each othr. Elements that are near each other should relate to one another.
  • Pull Quote: gets readers attention to the article- it is a quote from the article that is put in the page in big type to get the reader to read it .
  • Drop Cap: says read here first, makes it visually interesting
  • Side Bar: elaborates on something in the text- explains how to do something, can be a chart, statistics, etc
  • Quark: to save linked pictures, go to File-->collect for output
  • Quark: to check if picturesare linked go to Utilities-->usage-->press update to link them. Should show the pictures there.
  • When preparing for print, your images at 100% should be twice the line per inch size of the publicaion. Ex: newspaper- lines per inch/line screen is 65. So the dpi of the image at 100%should be 130. If you scaled the image down to 50% you only need half of that dpi. (65)
  • To get the symbol of three dots instead of just typing ... click ALT + ;
  • alignment, repetition, contrast= all these elements make things POP!
  • Symmetrical: everything is balanced
  • Assymetrical: not balanced- in general design is asymmetrical- cuz it pops more.
  • Poster: should have a few good elements that stand out. Type can go on differnet angles, etc.

Kay thats all i have! Feel free to add anything!

oh also there was one thing that i didnt really understand dos anyone know what this means- something about CTRL SHIFT N makes a rule above make rule fat- use minus value on offset

anyone have an idea what that is ?

Thanks have fun studying!!

Here's a cute map!!

Funny Qs of the day

Someone asked me today if a woman can be mashiach. it was actually a man which made it even weirder.

next funny Q:
My name is Eric Aguiar. I am a Law Professor in Norcross Georgia. I am also a professional drummer and play in a band in Atlanta named Echo Hotel. I was wondering if your company (OU) sponsors bands, and if so, what style do you look for.

and last one for today:
Q: how do you take Deut. 14:3 not to eat any abomable thingse. there are foods that have been made unclean, example refined sugar, MSG, chemicles in foods, aspartaime, all is repugnant to Deut. 14:3. I always buy OU, Tablet K, K parve, but I also read the labels against Deut. 14:3. Is there an OU symbol that takes Deut. 14:3 into consideration??

A: we are very selective of which parts of the torah we keep. I think that was the one that just didn’t work out for us.

MAP OF WHAT??

I have no idea what to make a map of any ideas??

kay im going to eat a third supper see ya

Inspirational Quote of the Day

I found this inside a fortune cookie: "Every production of genius must be the production of enthusiasm." When I saw this I thought of graphic design that any project you do, you have to be enthusiastic about it or else it won't be good.

Anyone Who Wants Help With the Brochures...

Decastro gave us these links yesterday- they have some sample brochures that you can look at to get ideas. (p.s. to EMJ- there's a sample of a construction brochure)
http://www.stocklayouts.com/Default.aspx (go to brochures)
http://www.allgraphicdesign.com/templateslayouts/quarkxpresstemplates.html

And The Awards Go To...

The results are in for this semester's "most dedicated (Touro) student awards!" And the awards go to... Chani, Simie, and Tova for showing up to class on Sunday!! Special mention goes to Rochel for showing up for most of Decastro's class. (I had to leave early.) She receives the "mostly dedicated touro student" award. But don't worry if you didn't come , you didn't miss much- for decastro's class on Tuesday we have to show her that we started something with our brochures and we have a "midterm." I don't know what happened in Finnel's class so whoever was there can fill us in...

HELP ME!

Help! I need ideas for my poster for Finnel...free chocolate next week to the winning entry! :) LOL...and btw, does anyone know what size to make it?

In case you were wondering, that's my nephew...just thought you'd like to see him...knaynahara!

Hi everybody! Ok, I finally got a chance to sign our blog- it's really cute! I have never seen a blog before in my life and the first time I heard about it was in mco 140. I guess that class was good for something. ( for those of you who don't know, mco 140 is a class that makes you feel like a computer genius because you come out of the class knowing what the term "gigabytes" actually means.) Anyway, see y'all on Tuesday cuz I don't think I'll be there on Sunday ;-)

Q for anyone awake b/w the hr of 7-8 last night

I know the answer is probably nothing, but what did I miss in the last hour of O'hara's class? any hw?

School on Sunday??

I don't know about anyone else, but I never agreed to take classes on Sunday
I'm not coming....anyone with me on that?
I am going shooooping :-)

BTW, if anyone was wondering who "stam" is that is posting comments that's my friend Saara. everyone say hi !
